LOCATION : https://goo.gl/maps/YTBaP2Jn2J3byuju8 Tambdi Surla is one of the most beautiful ancient temple in India and in Goa which is located inside Bhagwan Mahaveer wildlife Sanctuary in Bolkornem area. In 12th centuary the Tambdi Surla temple was built in Jain style. The temple is built in a place which is quite secluded which is 65 beautiful kms away from Panjim. The temple is made of black basalt and it is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Going by the records this Temple is Kadamba-Yadava's only architecture in basalt stone preserved and available in Goa. The face of the temple is facing east, a sacred direction for temples to receive the first rays of the sun. The Temple's roof is made of plain grey slabs. You can also see Lord Shiva's Nandi in the temple which is surprisingly headless. There is a Shivling inside the temple where devotees perform prayers. We will also recommend you to visit the Temple during the festival of Mahashivratri as 100s of deevotees from different places and surroundings come here to celebrate Mahashivratri here with lot of zeal and happiness. Tambdi Surla Temple is considered to be the oldest temple in Goa and this is one of the reason which makes it so special. Once you are here you will see a beautiful piece of stone work of lotus shape carved out of the porch's ceiling. The pierced stone screen carrying the figures of deities that surrounds the door of the vestibule is another serene feature which will not be missed by your eyes. The Temple is a ray of hope in itself as it has survived the deadliest of the attacks through the centuries to become a symbol of reminiscence of a glorious past that it witnessed over 8 centuries. The stone pillars are carved with intricate designs – a mixture of abstract structures, animals and characters from the Mythology. Bas-reliefs of the Hindu Gods are at display around the corners, another signature style of Kadamba architecture. Tambdi Surla is present in the Google Maps, and it is not hard to locate the Temple. One must also plan to visit the Water fall with family & friends as the Trek to the Waterfall itself is a lifetime experience as you will come across mini waterfalls, stream of passing water, medicinal trees, Music of flowing water & Beautiful arrangements done by the local authorities through out the Trek.
