27/5/23 Ffestiniog Railway Take 2, this time, we got to Blaneua Ffestiniog! Previously we came up here in 2021, but found that the railway was only operating to Tan-y-bwlch with a £50 ticket price, so decided against going on it. On our latest visit, we had the sole operational original Double Fairlie on the line, 'Merddin Emry', my first glimpse of a working Double Fairlie, a very fascinating machine. We had also intended to do the Welsh Highland Railway too but due to the length of the journey and our limited time up in Wales, we had to pass. It was wonderful to get to witness the massive SAR NGG16s up close for the first time, and they certainly are a sight to behold! Welsh Pony was a locomotive I had wanted to see and last time was failed before it was due out, so it was great to see it this time round. Fresh out of a 7 month overhaul was another Double Fairlie 'David Lloyd George', which look great in the sun! In service were: Ffestiniog Railway; . FR Large England No. 5 'Welsh Pony' .
