Flying the Pipistrel Velis Electro

Today we fly the Pipistrel Velis Electro! The Velis is the first electric aircraft certified by EASA. And the first Velis registered in Austria is the newest member in the fleet of flight school Watschinger in Vöslau. The Velis is a joy to fly. The view thru the transparent side doors is outright fantastic. The aircraft produces less noise, vibrations, and zero emissions. The electricity comes from the school's own PV on the hangar roof. The Velis is very efficient. It has a glide ratio of 15:1 and at its most economical power setting of 20 kW, the electric powertrain consumes just the equivalent of 2.4 liters of fuel per hour! The only downside is its limited endurance. The required legal cross-country VFR reserve of 30 minutes restricts its radius significantly. But you can always add a few touch&go's and polish your landing skills! I really enjoy flying the Velis and have already completed the difference training. Want to get electrified?
