Righteousness & Repetitive Sin | Devotional | Proverbs 21:3

To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. — Proverbs 21:3 So this proverb directly counters the adage: "It's better to ask forgiveness than permission." It's not better, fellas. I would delete that adage from your mind and lips forever. Instead, it's always better to do the right thing first. Or at least attempt to do so. This is far better than seeking forgiveness for the same sin repeatedly and then coming to the throne of God to offer a sacrifice for that repetitive issue, only putting on a show with no intent to change. We don't fool God when we do this. We may fool other people, but not God. You see, God knows our hearts. And he wants us to bring fewer sacrifices to him and more righteousness and justice to this life. This is the only right response after bringing a sacrifice to the throne of God. Change is expected. It's an action — sacrifice — with a counteraction — righteousness. But fellas here is a little side note. Change is expected and challenging at times. So please never forget that your sin, even when it occurs repeatedly, does nothing to affect the sacrifice of God. So never stop bringing a sacrifice. Just remember, as you bring a sacrifice, you need to leave it there. ASK THIS: What sin do you need to leave behind today? What righteous action and justice is it time to pursue? DO THIS: Share the sin and proclaim the right action below. PRAY THIS: Father, forgive me of my repeated sin. And may I leave it behind, pursuing what is right in your eyes.
