A Night-Blooming Jasmine - for pedal harp

*Copies of the score may be purchased through Harp Column - https://harpcolumn.com/music/all-musi... A Night-Blooming Jasmine is a piece inspired by Laura's fierce love for horticulture and the great outdoors. While this type of Jasmine does not boast showy blooms, its scent has been described as intoxicating and evocative. The fragrance can often be detected from several hundreds of feet away from the plant source! It almost seems a shame that this bouquet can only be enjoyed after nightfall, when most are tucked away in blissful slumber, but one can imagine a secret wakening of a fantastic dream world due to nature's powerful, beckoning call. If it inspires dreams and a powerful longing for things just outside of one's reach, imagine the conversations and dances it awakes in nearby flora and fauna. The harp airs a mystical aura, as powerful as the scent of this flowering plant. Every note is almost a call to the deepest secrets of the invisible plane of existence--the holiest and most sacred secrets we keep. When listening to this piece, it is advised to close one's eyes, breathe deeply, and allow oneself to drift off into that mysteriously intoxicating, unconscious plane. Note from Laura: Much gratitude goes out to harpist Danielle Kuntz who consulted with me on this piece and also recorded it for me (an amazing experience all around). With her expert guidance, I was able to notate this piece more idiomatically as well as feel more confident about my first attempt at harp writing. She offers harp writing consultation services and workshops through her website at www.daniellekuntz.com and can be found on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Danielle holds a Masters of Music in Harp Performance (2017) with a related focus on Music Theory from the University of North Texas. She is a huge advocate for new music for harp, and she enjoys working with non-harpist composers to expand and diversify the repertoire.
