Determining the Correct Lug Nut Size for Your Axle Having trouble determining the right lug nut size for your trailer or vehicle? You're not alone. Let’s break it down quickly. 1. Half-inch by 20 Lug Nut: Fits on 2K, 3.5K, 5.2K, 6K, and 7K pound trailer axles. Typically seen on 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug, and sometimes 8-lug trailer axles. Was common on 7K axles, but newer models now use 9/16 lug nuts. 2. 9/16 Stud Lug Nut: Found on 7K and 8K axles or 8-lug trailer axles. We also have a variation, the 9/16 swivel flange nut, which can occasionally be seen on these axles, especially with 17.5 inch solid wheels. 3. 5/8 Lug Nut: Used for 7K (less common), 8K, 10K, and 12K pound trailer axles. Often accompanied by a tension ring, especially for 10K axles. We have a variant, the 5/8 swivel flange nut, ideal for 8K with 17.5 inch solid wheels, as well as 10K and 12K axles. This often replaces the tension ring. 4. M22 Lug Nut - The Big Boy: Perfect for heavy-duty applications. Found on 15K, 16K, and bigger axles like 20K, 22K, 25K, 27K - think massive trailers and semis. Quick Recap: 4-lug, 5-lug, or 6-lug axle? Opt for half-inch by 20. 8-lug axle? It could be half inch, 9/16, or 5/8. For 7K or 8K 8-lug axles, newer models are likely 9/16. We hope this guide helps you make an informed decision.
