We're driving the top of the range 3.5 SL. The Altima is Nissan's best selling vehicle and an excellent choice within the family sedan segment. The 2014 model has no major design changes from 2013 but it does have some nice interior upgrades. The front end wears some of the angled, arrowed cues of other Nissans and Infinitis at the headlamps and taillights, while the side glass tapers gradually to a tasteful backstop. On our model we had HID headlights and fog lights. The rear lights are LED and add to the drama of the shape during nighttime driving. Nissan's new CVT engine is one of the best we've seen. You can certainly feel the 270 horses as you push the acceleration and it will take you from 0-60 in roughly 6 seconds, putting it on top of the family sedan segment. The 2.5 engine is also no pushover, and will generate182 horsepower. But the best part is that with both engines you get excellent fuel economy. Our 3.5 liter engine gave us 7.7 l per 100km and the 2.5 is rated to give 6.2 l per 100km. Very impressive! The Altima is a very spacious car easily for 5 passengers with enough leg room in the back to keep everyone happy. It has a large boot with 15.4 cubic feet to store plenty of suitcases. The cabin and leather upholstery have a very upscale look and feel, with high-quality materials and even the fake carbon fiber that actually doesn't look cheesy at all. The gauge cluster is attractive, with a large, highly readable speedometer and tachometer on either side of the crisp-looking information screen. An ergonomic highlight is the specially engineered "zero gravity" front seats used in all Altimas. With help from NASA research, the seats were designed to relieve common pressure points and improve comfort for the long haul. It works, as the Altima's front seats are more comfortable and supportive than the norm from the moment you plop down. The Nissan Altima has always been a leader as a family sedan and the 2014 maintains that heritage. It is a value for money interior and safety features not found in many of its rivals, and an engine that will excite most drivers.
