The lamb was very thirsty. The water was cool and clean. The lamb was happy. While the lamb was drinking, a big gray wolf came to the same stream. The wolf was very hungry. He saw the little lamb drinking water downstream from him. The wolf wanted to eat the lamb, but he needed a reason to attack. The wolf looked at the lamb and said in an angry voice, "Hey! You are making my water dirty!" The little lamb was scared. His voice was soft and quiet when he answered, "But Mr. Wolf, I am drinking downstream from you. The water flows from you to me. I cannot make your water dirty." The wolf was not happy with this answer. He tried again. "Well, last year you said bad things about me!" The lamb looked at the wolf with surprise. "But Mr. Wolf, I was not even born last year. I am only six months old." The wolf became more angry. He did not like that the lamb had good answers. He tried one more time. "Then it was your father who said bad things about me!" "My father? But he never met you, Mr. Wolf. He lives in another field far away," said the lamb. Now the wolf was very angry. He showed his sharp teeth. "I don't care! You, your father, or your grandfather - someone in your family said bad things about me! And now you will pay!" The lamb started to shake with fear. "Please, Mr. Wolf, I am just a small lamb. I never did anything bad to you. Please let me go home to my mother." But the wolf did not listen. He jumped at the lamb and caught him. Before eating the lamb, the wolf said, "Ha! I wanted to eat you anyway. I just needed a reason. It doesn't matter if your answers were good!" The poor little lamb cried, but no one was there to help. The big wolf ate the small lamb by the stream. In the evening, the mother sheep looked for her baby lamb. She went to the stream and found only small white wool on the ground. She was very sad. She understood what happened to her baby. The next day, all the sheep in the field talked about what happened. They said, "The wolf did not want justice. He only wanted to eat the lamb. He made up reasons to attack because he was stronger." The old shepherd who took care of the sheep heard the story. He said to all the animals, "Remember this story. Sometimes, bad people will try to hurt good people. They will make up reasons to be mean. When someone wants to do bad things, they will find excuses, even if the excuses are not true." The sheep stayed together after that day. They never went to drink water alone. They knew that together they were safer. The little lambs learned to be careful and stay close to their mothers. The shepherd got a big dog to protect the sheep. The dog was strong and brave. When the wolf came back, the dog chased him away. The wolf never came to that stream again. Years passed, but the animals never forgot the story of the little lamb. They told it to their children and their children's children. They said, "Be careful of those who make excuses to hurt others. True justice is fair and honest. Bad people will make up reasons to do bad things." The mother sheep still missed her baby lamb. Every spring, when new lambs were born, she told them this story. She wanted them to be safe and smart. And so, the story of the wolf and the lamb became famous in the forest. It taught everyone an important lesson: Sometimes, powerful people will make up reasons to hurt others who are weaker. They don't care about being fair or right. They only care about what they want. The End.
