I just felt like Remaking this bona fide classic to update the fidelity and add a bit more context that was just not possible with the original hardware... I wonder if anyone thought of doing that sort of thing before... ;^) Joking aside, I recently got around to finally playing FF7 Remake and Rebirth after being a long-time fan of the original, and the darn things knocked my socks off! I'm a very transient "gamer" at most nowadays, but these have hit me in a way that makes me giddy like a goofy little kid again! And that MUSIC!! Crazy good soundtrack, just honestly crazy! Super cool orchestral, rock, jazz, FUNK, just overall fantastic music across the board - as the iconic original had, just souped-up to today's standards (and honestly plenty beyond). I can't compete with that, but my aim with this was to kind of stick to the Original J-E-N-O-V-A track with synthesizers and the alien feel with the synths. It's reasonably different from songs I typically make/work with, so it was fun to try layering different synthesizers in different ways for an unsettling evolving sound while taking a few minor liberties here and there for a few bits (the ending especially, I added a few Rebirth elements kinda). LOTS of synth layers and filtering on this though - plus a few SFX from the OG here and there for good measure. Speaking of that ending though... (lite kinda-Spoilers for Rebirth, sort of): I made the ending of this have the ominous arpeggio (which evolves awfully well from the Jenova arp) and the minor-ized Lifestream theme as heard in the ending of Rebirth while the characters are sitting by a certain pond... What does it all mean!? ... Strange things are afoot in the Lifestream! And yes, I couldn't resist a pun of Jenova∙SYNTHESIS for the title (even if we're more at the LIFE/Lifeclinger phase at this point). I also had some fun playing around in the ZGameEditor in FL Studio for the visualizer (maybe overdid it, but it was fun and is cool).
