Screaming Pines is one of my favourite compositions of my guitar hero Harry Sacksioni. What a great piece he has composed. Guitar: I've been playing many guitars like Yamaha L25, Furch D20CM, Epiphone EJ200 and now Guild D-120. The Guild D-120 is the best I've ever played so far. Besides the price which is far below 1000,- EURO, the sound is amazing, the balance, the tone and response. One of the critical parts to test the response of a steelstring guitar is the part I played from the moment of 1:54, a hammer-on and two pull-offs in a row on the hing E string. Most guitars lose their volume and body on that part. I did a comparison with a Taylor Jumbo full Koa, which could not give that response as discribed with my Guild D-120. The neck has a nut width of 45mm which gives me the opportunity the play more complex compositions because my fingers are a bit larger and thicker. Most steelstrings have a nut width of 43mm, this increases the risk that I accidentally mute another string. I never want to go back to a smaller nut width, in fact I think 46mm will be the perfect match for everything, but I can live with a 45mm nut width :) Audio Recording: Three microphones, one for left, right and middle (middle is not visible 'cause I shoot the video later). Middle mic is a Nady SCM-1000, which is an large-diaphragm and gives more body to the final sound. For the left and right stereo image I used the Behringer C-2 matched pair small-diaphragm mics (visible in video). My interface is the Presonus FP10, an older FireWire device which is still working great on PC with Windows 7 or all Macs with a FireWire connection. Software is Logic Pro X.
