Themed ‘Transience’, ‘Indigene’s collection for the Lakme Fashion Week S/R 2016 is inspired by Wabi-Sabi, which represents apanese aesthetics centering on acceptance of imperfection. Replete with simplicity and understated elegance, the collection is completely handmade, with handspun and handwoven Khadi being the stand out fabric and hand-printed ajrakh forming the core of design. Motifs though influenced by African mud wall paintings, Gurunsi architecture are geometric, sticking to the traditional look of ajrakh to keep the essence of the hand-made craft alive. Symmetric yet organic, fluid yet structured, the line with its simple, unpretentious and fine embroidered silhouettes is a touch below flamboyancy, appealing especially to those who are experimental and creative. Also, the line brings together imperfections in the most beautiful and seamless manner. Overall, Indigene as a label is synonymous with hand-made and natural processes. Forged 6 years ago, the label speaks for artisans and craftsman spread across the country. Headed by designers Ruchi Tripathi and Jaya Bhatt, the label now aims to make a mark at the ongoing fashion week on March 31, with its line that boasts of a perfect fusion of style and elegance along with being easy to wear.
