Birds! Birds! Birds! | Drawing Update February | Moderately Competent

Previous videos in this series:    • Drawing & Visual Library: My Starting...   I've been drawing birds for a few weeks, and all the resources I used are listed below: How to Draw Birds: In the video I mentioned the book "The Laws Guide to Drawing Birds" by John Muir Laws (https://amzn.to/3S8I0D8 (Amazon affiliate link)) but you can also get the vast majority of the information in the book from his website (https://johnmuirlaws.com/), which is also an excellent resource for all sorts of other tutorials and ideas for drawing the natural world. Also a great resource for drawing and art activities for kids and teens. More specifically, though, I think if you watched two videos on that site (https://johnmuirlaws.com/the-new-bird... and https://johnmuirlaws.com/drawing-bird...) you would have everything you need to start drawing realistic birds. Bird References: There are lovely individual shots of birds on Unsplash and elsewhere, but two great photography sites specifically for birds are: Seeing Birds (https://www.seeingbirds.com/Birds-by-...) and Birdpixel (https://www.birdpixel.com/Birds) These sites both have the advantage of containing many sequential photos of the same animal moving around, so you can often get a complete 360 view of a single bird. If you want to draw bird gestures or you're looking for more sequential bird images, (I didn't get to this but I had lined up some resources) I recommend looking for the late 1990s series The Life Of Birds on various streaming services (it's definitely on Amazon), narrated by David Attenborough, as well as looking for bird related clips in his more recent series. Art supplies I used: Seawhite Euro A3 sketchbook (https://amzn.to/3ElddO2 -- Amazon affiliate link. If you are in the UK it is often cheaper to buy direct from Seawhite's own shop: https://www.artesaver.co.uk/Catalogue...) Prismacolour Col-Erase pencils Sepia fineliner - I have this Faber Castell pack (https://amzn.to/3I4l2Ze - Amazon affiliate link) Ballpoint rendering: mainly using Bic Roundstic in purple (https://amzn.to/3IdQX9W - Amazon affiliate link) Everything else I used is just really basic stuff -- printer paper, basic pencils, etc. Other things I mentioned: Getting Started With Gouache by Emma Block, which is 99p on Kindle (https://amzn.to/3IcHRtX -- Amazon affiliate link) Chapters: 0:00 Intro 0:20 Drawing Birds 4:13 Ballpoint Rendering 5:15 Plans for Next Month
