This video was filmed between 2021 and 2023. The MTR M-train (or the Modernisation Train) was made by Metro Cammell and was first introduced in 1979 when the initial section of the MTR first opened (now part of the Kwun Tong Line). The M-train was in production up until the 1990s. The train was refurbished from 1998 to 2001 to its current appearance. Now the trains are reaching 40 to 45 years old. Since 2022, the new CRRC Q-train has begun slowly replacing the existing M-train. Replacement on the Kwun Tong Line was completed in late 2023. Therefore 2024/01/15, the M-train was withdrawn from the Kwun Tong Line from regular passenger service, although the M-train will still use the Kwun Tong Line for moving between different lines. Occasionally, M-train will service the Kwun Tong Line under special arrangements. From May to August 2024, M-train regularly served as the rush hour only train on the Kwun Tong Line again. The White Head Retro M-Train also served the Kwun Tong Line in late August 2024 before moving to other lines. Soon, the M-train on the Island Line, Tsuen Wan Line and Tseung Kwan O Line will have the same fate and be replaced by Q-train.
