Countdown (Australia)- Molly Meldrum Interviews Olivia Newton-John - August 28, 1983

A segment from the long running Australian music TV series Countdown, which aired on the ABC from 1974-1987. This particular segment aired during the Countdown episode which originally aired on August 28, 1983, on the ABC. This clip features an interview of Australian singer Olivia Newton-John, conducted by Countdown Talent Co-Ordinator Molly Meldrum from his Ancient Egyptian themed home (‘Luxor’), in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond. The interview begins with a discussion about the recording of her 1981 album ‘Physical’. They also discuss the film she made with ‘Grease’ co-star John Travolta, ‘Two Of A Kind’- rumours at the time speculated that it might be a follow up to ‘Grease’. They proceed to discuss her opening of what would become the ‘Koala Blue’ stores with fellow Australian singer Pat Carroll, which features clothing from Australian designers. They discuss the American fascination with Australiana. They proceed to then discuss then boyfriend, soon-to-be husband, Matt Lattanzi’s (with whom she eventually had a daughter, Chloe Lattanzi) career. The interview concludes with a discussion of recent issues Olivia had with a stalker. Vaxfacts: Molly Meldrum's ancient Egyptian themed house (from where this interview was conducted), the "Luxor", is located in the inner Melbourne suburb of Richmond, and has lived there since the early 1980s. His fascination, possibly obsession, with ancient Egypt began with his grandmother, who raised him on Egyptian literature, and his father Robert, who was stationed for a time in Cairo as a member of the Australian Imperial Force during the Second World War, and who brought him back many ancient Egyptian items. His passion developed further when he first visited Egypt, sometime in the 1960s/1970s, and has visited there numerous times since.
