The Remains of Rampurwa (west champaran, Bihar).Two ancient Ashokan piller(3rd Century B.C)and two mounds near village of Rampurwa.The small village of Rampurwa is situated about two miles north-west Gaunaha railway station on the border of Bihar -Nepal.The antiquity of the place was first noticed by carlleyle in 1877-78 when he discovered the remains of two Ashokan pillars and other ruins and mound closeby.Later in 1880-81 cunnighum inspected, explored and carried out trail excavation near them.First systematic excavation were however carried out only in 1907-08 by an ASI team under Dayram sahani.This site is believed to have been the place where the Buddha having left Behind his family upon reaching the bank of the Anoma river, had exchanged his royal robes for an ancetic's grab and had chopped off his elegant hair locks.king Ashoka is believed to have erected these pillars to commemorate this important event of the Buddha's life.Of all the all the mauryan Emperor Ashoka (in 3rd Century B.C) possible This site has been identified in ancient times with the location of Pippalivan's Moriya(clan in 6th century B.C) Waddell in 1896 suggested that the death or parinirvana of Gautama Buddha was in the region of Rampurva:There are sie inscriptions on a pillar which was written by Emperor Ashoka.If there is a detailed excavation here, then hidden history comes out .
