Simple Family Christmas Traditions // Family of Six

Some of you have asked what our Christmas traditions are as a family! We don’t want Christmas to become chaotic, materialistic, fatiguing, stressful and expensive. And since our family is young . . . we have the ability to set our children's expectations for the future! As a Christian family, everything we do revolves around the reality that we are bought by the blood of Jesus Christ. Although we celebrate this concept year round, this is a special season to focus and really emphasize who Jesus is and why He needed to come to earth. Jesus came in the form of a man to be fully God and fully man. He lived a sinless life so He could pay the penalty for our sins. He conquered death by rising from the dead and giving us hope of eternal life. Some of the things we are enjoying doing this year are: Reading through Luke when Jesus comes to earth as a baby, as well as choosing different passages of the Gospel story and really following Jesus’ life through to His death and resurrection. Letting the kids decorate the Christmas tree. It’s not perfect, but the relational bonding and family memories being made are worth it. Having a little advent house calendar. We love the countdown and anticipation. We knew that our children would enjoy that too! Going on a boat cruise across the lake to see the “North Pole” in the downtown Coeur d’Alene here in northern Idaho Building gingerbread houses Making maple syrup candy with the snow Going to Elisha’s hometown and preform Christmas concerts with the rest of his family. He’s 1 of 10 children and grew up preforming many Christmas concerts. This is a tradition that has been going on for 15-16 years now. Our children are starting to become a part of the show too!
