Keynote: The Strategic Benefits of Open Source Collaboration for the Energy Transition & Policy

Keynote: The Strategic Benefits of Open Source Collaboration for the Energy Transition & Policy - Dan Brown, LF Energy; Antonello Monti, RWTH Aachen Univ; Lucian Balea, RTE; Savannah Goodman, Google; Jonas van den Bogaard, Alliander; Mark van Stiphout, Eu Open source is a unique method of building technology by sharing R&D and collaborating on solutions to common challenges faced by multiple stakeholders. This significantly differs from proprietary development methods where a single organization drives the full development process. Open source offers many benefits including faster development, simpler deployment, lower costs, increased innovation, improved interoperability and upgradability, and better cybersecurity. Open source ecosystems support a range of business models, from the pooling of innovation efforts to the deployment of enterprise solutions supported by service providers. It has specific implications for the energy transition as well as policy and regulatory compliance in the sector. This session will gather leaders in energy and open source who will discuss why their organizations have committed to an open source strategy, how they went about implementing it, and what benefits they are seeing. It will also explore how innovation and the energy transition can be sped up, and how government policies and regulations can work with and enhance open source communities.
