You might have heard that the higher your cadence, the better for your joints, or that the longer your stride, the better it is as well. Does that confuse you? Let's define those terms and try and try to answer those questions. Like any scientific researches, there are specific conditions in which the tests are performed. Increasing how many steps per minute you take (cadence) when you run on road reduces the impact on the floor and thus the risk of injuries. There seems to be a consensus that a rhythm of around 180 steps per minute on road at a challenging running pace is the sweet spot. The stride length is simply how long each step you take is. If your cadence is at 180 steps per minute, and if on top of that your stride is short, you'll be shuffling, putting yourself at a risk of other overuse injuries, and you will most likely run much slower than what you could. So you'll benefit from increasing your stride length. Ideally you should be looking for the longest stride possible with a cadence of around 180 steps per minute. There are plenty of stretches and drills that can allow you to increase progressively your stride length without risking over-striding and heel striking. Most relevant tip in my opinion is to pull back your foot as soon as it hits the floor. The app for Android that I use as a metronome is called Metronome Beats.
