The post-war years saw the end of the local aviation and the closure of the railway into the town, while road traffic has increased considerably; but channel steamers still call at the harbour. Amidst Porthcawl of the present day, evidence of its history abounds, particularly in the nearby villages of Nottage and Newton. Many relics of the past are still a visible part of the present - quiest country lanes, village streets, dockside buildings; whilst others, such as the old windmills, are less easily found. The past and present are inextricably linked by the institutions that have served Porthcawl for generations; places of worhship, sporting clubs, the fairground, the annual carnival. As the world changes, there is much that remains relatively unchanged.
