Whether you're a beginner or an enthusiast, this video aims to provide you with all the necessary information about PCV. A working PCV is important in maintaining a healthy engine. You'll learn about the various components of the PCV system and how it works. I explain the working principle behind PCV and how it helps in removing harmful gases. A bad or blocked PCV valve can cause issues. It can cause loss of engine oil through formation of new leaks made through weak seals and gaskets, or causing oil to get past the piston rings. If you burn oil, over time will damange the catalytic converter and O2 sensor, which both are very expensive. On this Honda engine, the PCV is located in the front of the engine. You can see in the video there is oil residue around the positive crankcase ventilation valve. This means that that the PCV either is not working properly or the seal is an issue. Usually if the PCV isnt working as it should, it will push oil residue past the seal instead of taking it back into the intake manifold. The signs of the working PCV is that if you shake it, you will hear it rattle. In the video I compared new and old, the older one does rattle but it is muted. It does not mean that it isnt working, but it could mean it is not working efficiently. The PCV is connected to the breather plate or stock catch can. This separate the oil from the vapor. This system was put in place to reduce harmful gas emission into the atmosphere. It also is a mechanism to reduce crankcase pressure. The reduction of crankcase pressure was always an issue in the past. The PCV system is a simple way to reduce engine crankcase buildup / pressure and to reduce harmful emissions. You can also clean the PCV valve. Because this is a plastic PCV valve I would clean it with a water based degreaser then spray it with a MAF cleaner. However I chose to replace the PCV valve. This is a relatively inexpensive part. You can get a bigger repair bill due to oil leakage and engine problems if the PCV valve stopped working. As this is a plastic PCV valve it will fail eventually due to many heat/cold cycles. So it is better to replace it as a preventive measure. A bad PCV Valve stuck open or closed can result in the below: Oil leaks past seals and gaskets Oil burning as pressure pushed oil past piston rings Some from exhaust as oil burns in combustion chamber O2 (oxygen sensor) can go bad if you burn oil Can cause buildup of sludge in engine Catalytic convertor can go bad if you burn oil Poor fuel economy causing engine to run in a rich or lean condition Rough acceleration or rough idle as air to fuel ratio is imbalanced Check engine light may turn on as PCV valve impacts performance and emissions --------------------------- Music by Grand_Project & QubeSounds from Pixabay #PCV #PCVExplained #honda #diy #savemoney #carmaintenance #stepbystep #tutorial #autorepair #carlovers #vehiclecare #tips Honda PCV valve replacement PCV valve replacement DIY Honda City PCV Honda Jazz PCV Honda Fit PCV Honda PCV Diagnose a PCV valve DIY PCV valve replacement at home Signs of a bad pcv valve Oil leak because of pcv valve how to install a new pcv valve grommet When to change pcv valve PCV valve preventive maintainence, Blocked pcv valve, PCV valve oil mess What does the pvc valve do Why do people remove or replace PCV valve Signs of bad pcv valve --------------------------- Disclaimer: All content and media on The Wrench Wiz YouTube channel is created and published for informational purposes only.
