Use code: JACKAYNSLEY or this link: https://bit.ly/4cwnMN5 ad Welcome to our new series exploring the ancient Silk Road. Kicking off this series we are in the largest city in all of Central Asia, Tashkent in Uzbekistan. Commonly known as the cheapest city in the world! The history of Tashkent dates back more than 2000 years. Today, Tashkent is a modern metropolis, but still with elements of Soviet and rich ancient history. We start in the day leaving our hotel, the iconic Hotel Uzbekistan and head down to Amir Temur Square to learn more about the history of this great city. Afterwards we take a walk along the beautiful tree lined streets and play some boxing games with local lads. Ready to experience our first coffee of the trip, we are blown away with the hospitality and quality of the drinks made. We make friends with the staff and enjoy a moment of peace soaking in this outstanding city, but not for long before we are off again but this time to explore the most visually impressive ex-soviet metro system. Opened in 1977 but unseen by the world outside of Uzbekistan, until June 2018, due to the metro being used as house bunkers and considered military installations. Now free to show the world these impressive stations we visit 3 on our journey to Chorsu Bazaar where we try our first taste of Uzbekistan food. The city of Tashkent impresses us more and more and we are blown away with how good the food and hospitality is yet again. We end our visit to Chorsu Bazaar with a walk around the spice market and take a local Yandex taxi to Hazrati Imam Complex. The spiritual heart of Tashkent for centuries and the site of the Oldest Quran in the world. After spending more than 2 hours exploring the site we head to Tashkent city park to enjoy some early evening drinks, showing off the nightlife Tashkent has to offer, including local wines and beers. We end the night visiting what could be Uzbekistan's Best Restaurant, Caravan. Sat in the absolutely beautiful courtyard garden, traditionally decorated and shaded with climbing vines. We listened to live Uzbek music and enjoyed the restaurants specially dish before calling it a night. 👋🏼 Support us!
