The large Ichthyosaur from Secëda

The ichthyosaurus, half fish, half lizard, was an impressive animal. Thanks to virtual reality from 2021 onwards it can be experienced first-hand in the Gherdëina Museum in Ortisei. A video of the project made by the young geologist Nicola Castelnuovo shows how enormous this marine animal was that dominated the Tethys Ocean for 100 million years. Der Ichthyosaurus, halb Fisch, halb Echse, enorme sechs bis zehn Meter lang und mit spitzen Zähnen bewaffnet, ist einer der Stars der umfassenden paläontologischen Sammlung des Museum Gherdëina. Wie mächtig dieses Tier war, das vor etwa 241 Millionen Jahre das Urmeer Tethys beherrscht hat, zeigt der junge Geologe Nicola Castelnuovo, der den Saurier auf der Basis dieser wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnisse des Experten Ryosuke Motani digital rekonstruiert hat. L’ittiosauro, metà pesce, metà lucertola, era un animale impressionante. Grazie alle realtà virtuale a partire dal 2021 potrà essere vissuto in prima persona nel Museum Gherdëina di Ortisei. Un video del progetto realizzato dal giovane geologo Nicola Castelnuovo fa intuire quanto fosse enorme questo animale marino che ha dominato l’Oceano Tetide per 100 milioni di anni.
