A lovely, easy Rosedale loop.

On a beautiful sunny day there is no better place to be than the North York Moors. I've driven down the roads around here many times but this is the first time I've ridden around Rosedale. You can start at the car park on the Whitby road and have a break in Rosedale halfway round, but I prefer to start at the bottom of a loop so I finish with a descent. Most of the ride is on gravel or minor road, but the section over the Hutton Le Hole road is more technical, not difficult, but just a bit more challenging. Providing there isn't a sheep roadblock you shouldn't need to stop! This ride would be a great introduction to cross country mountain biking, the technical terrain near the end isn't bad at all, but easily walkable for anyone that doesn't fancy it. An experienced gravel biker should manage it, but there is the option to cut out this section and go down Rosedale Chimney, but it is steeeeeeeeep!!! You can get refreshment from the Dale Head Farm tea room, but check opening times before you go, it is a big detour if they are closed. We noticed the White Horse Farm Inn on our last drive so I was looking forward to popping in, but again check times before visiting, the Coach House was a more than adequate replacement, especially with both being so close to the end of the ride. We have been to the Abbey Tea Rooms many times, but there is also Graze On The Green should you prefer coffee and cake. There are 2 caravan parks in Rosedale should you wish to stay in your tent, motorhome or caravan, but the Howard does close early in September.
