We prefer the privacy, immersion in nature, and low cost that goes along with boondocking and dry camping. Staying in RV parks or campgrounds can be good for a little bit since they typically include the comforts of full hookups - but the added cost, lots all packed close to each other, and suburban neighborhood feel to them makes us yearn for the primitive camp sites. We also got to explore Starved Rock State Park - a wilderness area known for its steep sandstone canyons formed by ancient glaciers as they melted. With over 14 miles of hiking trails, multiple lookouts and canyons to see, and wildlife crawling and flying everywhere, we definitely had to hustle to see it all before the park closed!
