Why YODA was Wrong and LUKE is Making the Same Mistakes | Star Wars Breakdown

The Star Wars Saga has spanned 12 films, countless TV episodes, books, and comics--and all that media has revealed one undeniable truth. Yoda messed up. He messed up real bad. The Clone wars are marred with the failures of Yoda, Mace Windu, and the rest of the Jedi Council. Their actions directly led to the rise of Palpatine, the Empire, and the destruction of the Jedi Order. In this video we break own exactly where Yoda failed, and why the dogmatic beliefs of the Jedi were flawed from the start. The Council became too intertwined with the politics of the Republic Senate, and committed too hard to winning the war against the Separatists. In doing so, they sacrificed their beliefs, and their connection with the Force. But, Yoda chose exile and found a new path forward. Through the failures of Luke, maybe now Rey's new new Jedi Order will embrace empathy and emotions, and rebuild stronger and better than before. Maybe, under a mandalorian Jedi King named Grogu. It wasn’t that he failed to defeat Darth Sidious, because their duel was fairly even. No, in this moment Yoda realized how wrong he was: about the Jedi’s way, about the clone wars, about his arrogance and blindness. This moment of failure is a culmination of decades of terrible mistakes that led the Jedi to ruin. Yoda was the de facto leader of the Jedi all through the disastrous events of the clone wars and order 66. This is why we can’t talk about Yoda being wrong, without talking about the Jedi’s failures, because they are one and the same. Let’s begin by examining one of the most crucial scenes in the prequels, the moments that define Yoda’s many failures, and his terrible mistakes that eventually led to Anakin becoming Darth Vader. Anakin suffered from Pamda’s death visions. He tried to confine in Yoda, searching for guidance and reassurance. But Yoda gave Anakin all the wrong answers, telling him to accept the death of his loved one. Yoda lived for more than 900 years, it was easier for him to accept death, both because of his age, but also because of the Jedi code, which forbade personal attachment. It became his absolute truth, there was no alternative or flexibility, not for him and not for any other Jedi. Because he was so certain of the Jedi code, Yoda could never truly understand the love Anakin felt for Padme, and the great lengths he would go to save her. Yoda gave Anakin the apathetic answer, at a time when Anakin was seeking empathy, something he later got from Palpatine. Of course, there were so many things that led to Anakin’s turn, but This was The moment where Yoda drove Anakin directly to the dark side, and began the chain of events that left the Jedi in ruin. And he was too blind and arrogant to see it. There is nothing wrong with failure. But what is essential about failure is to learn from it, and do better. Unfortunately, Yoda didn’t learn from his many failures, not until it was too late. Yoda grew too dogmatic and comfortable in his old age, he lost perspective, believing that the peace he has known all of his life will be everlasting and that the Jedi will prevail like they always did. This directly led to the final days of the Jedi and the republic, as the clone war was upon the galaxy. Yoda and the other Jedi chose to completely ignore how suspiciously and conveniently a clone army just landed in the republic’s lap. From the very start, it was clear that there was something off about the whole thing. Obi-Wan was told that the clones were ordered by Sifo-Dyas, a Jedi master who foresaw the galactic conflict. Ironically, the Jedi council rejected Sifo-Dyas’ logic in creating an army for the republic, even casting out of the council. And yet, once the war had begun, the Jedi just accepted this army, because it was convenient. Yoda never questions the dubious timing of the clone wars nor the timing of the army’s creation. Completely ignoring the fact that this army was cloned from Jango Fett, the same bounty hunter who was working for Dooku.
