The end of 405-line TV.. on a 405-line TV!

© BBC TELEVISION 1985 The audio is the best I could do given I didn’t want to wake family members up! This thing is loud even at quiet volumes! I got this for a decent price of about £40 on eBay a few years ago from someone who was clearing a house in Barnsley (which is fairly local to me), they found this stashed away somewhere in the house. As it came from Barnsley, it was clearly used on VHF ch2 for BBC1 from Holme Moss and ch10 for ITV from Emley Moor. It’s a 1956 Pye CTM17T, it’s the mk2 version which still had hand-wired chassis but had two frame linearity controls - one for overall linearity and one for top linearity. I’ve recently given it an overhaul, there were many capacitors inside that had gone open-circuit or leaky and a fair few resistors that had gone high in value. One was of totally the wrong value and must have been a hurried “late on Christmas Eve” quick emergency repair or something. Only one valve needed changing, the EHT rectifier valve was exhausted! And it looked like it was the original, so I’m not surprised! Speaking of the valves, some of them prove that the TV was in use well into the 1970s (some are dated 1970 & 71 and one is dated February 1974!!) and for all I know, this TV might have been used right up until January 1985! And last of all, I shouldn’t need to say this but the Coronavirus pandemic proves stupidity knows no bounds, so if you have such an old set and don’t know anything about resurrecting old electronic devices, then PLEASE leave it to someone competent! I absolve myself of all responsibility if one of you guys plugs in an unrestored old banger of a TV and shock yourself or set your house on fire! Just because it hasn’t been used for years doesn’t mean it’s safe in any event, as the chemicals that make up electronic components still age regardless of the amount of use!
