Last fall I was part of a team, building a, near life size, elephant doll for a children play at the Royal Danish Theatre. Two actors was to walk inside its legs, controlling trunk ears tail and mouth, performing with the rest of the crew on stage. The elephant played a major part of the play, and both actors and the giant doll had to endure about 30 shows without breaking. approx. 4m. long, 3m. high and 2.5m. wide weight about 60kg. mechanical trunk, ears, tail and mouth controlled by the two actors. 'Skeleton' made of aluminum pipes. Shoes made of cork, aluminum and in-liners. Skin made of cloth and some weird expanding plastic material. Body, Head and Trunk, made of foam-plates and lots of glue. mechanical control for the Trunk, Ears, Mouth and tail made of wire, aluminum, string, cable ties, bolts and all sorts of small assorted parts. Tusks made of fiberglass. Ears and Eyes in casted latex. Painted with airbrush. Deep respect to the actors for making this animal come alive.
