Day 206 learning cello : Etude no 5 op. 31 by Sebastian Lee

19/9 2024 Etude no 5, opus 31 by Sebastian Lee (from Forty Melodic and Progressive Etudes / 40 Melodische Etüden). No. 5 is an exercise on the legato and has sooo maaaany notes! I think it was as difficult as No. 3 and took me a whole week to get it clean and flowing (there are some off-pitch notes here and there, but it is as good as it's going to get for now). I also tried a bit faster tempo than this, but it loses intonation and feels too rushed, so I have to be more solid in my playing if I want it to sound good. I will continue to work on this etude and increase the speed. As you may have noticed, I have changed my surroundings :-) I established a whole music room with my cello and my old electric piano. I haven't played piano in decades, so it was fun to dig up a lot of repertoire I played as a teenager. I obviously can't play at the same level, but everything seems so familiar, and I could probably make a comeback if I spent a couple of months in intensive training :-) For now, the piano is quite handy when practicing tenor clef, so I have a reference when in doubt. —————— This is my cello journey.
