NBO Analysis: NBO stands for Natural Bond Orbital Analysis, a quantum chemical method to interpret molecular electron density and chemical bonding. NBO analysis provides a molecular orbital-based picture of electron density and bond strength in a molecule. #NBO #gaussian #dft Hyperconjugation Effect: Hyperconjugation refers to the interaction between adjacent sigma and pi bonds where the electron density of the sigma bond donates into an adjacent, empty pi orbital. This interaction results in a stabilization of the molecule, leading to an increase in bond strength and a decrease in bond length. Hyperconjugation is an important factor in understanding molecular stability and reactivity. In Gaussian, NBO analysis can be performed by adding the "NBO" keyword to the Gaussian input file, which then generates NBO analysis results in the output file. These results provide information about hyperconjugation in the molecule, including bond order and electron density distribution, as well as information about the relative stability of different molecular orbitals.
