Once the first skim coat was complete I let the joint compound dry for overnight. Day 2- I scraped any high spots with my 6″ drywall taping knife and then applied another skim coat to the previously skim coated walls. This skim coat was much easier to smooth out than the first skim coat that was over the heavy knockdown texture.
