Finnøy municipality and Rennesøy municipality were merged with Stavanger to form the new and bigger Stavanger municipality. The municipality is located on Nord-Jæren and with the nearby cities Sandnes, Sola and Randaberg constitute the country's third-largest urban area with 242,819 inhabitants. We are also go visit places outside Stavanger city. "Vålandstårnet or Vålandspibå in Stavanger can be found on Vålandshaugen (84 masl), which is the highest point in the district. The tower is built on what was previously called Axelsborg. Vålandstårnet is a lookout tower built in 1895, with a guardhouse for the city's first pressurized water pool. Before today's Våland tower was built, there must have been a lookout tower on this square. This was built during the Napoleonic War in the period 1807–1814. This was called Vålandspibå, a name that remains as the name of today's tower. For about. In 1860, there was very little left of the "pibå" itself, and a circular cairn was erected.
