Sunil Pokharel (born June 16, 1963) is a renowned Nepalese theatre artist and director, celebrated as a pioneer of modern Nepali theatre. Born in Noula village, Khotang District, he later moved to Mangalbare in Morang district, near Biratnagar, where he completed his schooling. Pokharel began his theatre career at thirteen, collaborating with artists like Badri Adhikari and Ramesh Budhathoki. He further honed his craft at the National School of Drama (NSD) in New Delhi, India, graduating in 1987. Upon returning, he founded Aarohan Gurukul, Nepal's first drama school, and became the artistic director of Aarohan Theatre Group. His directorial work spans over four dozen Nepali, Indian, and European plays. Pokharel's influence extends through his role as the principal of Gurukul: School of Theatre. His contributions have significantly shaped Nepalese theatre.
