A step-by-step description of how to write the electron configuration for Xenon (Xe).

A step-by-step description of how to write the electron configuration for Xenon (Xe). In order to write the I electron configuration we first need to know the number of electrons for the Xe atom (there are 54 electrons). When we write the configuration, we'll put all 54 electrons in orbitals around the nucleus of the Xenon atom. In this video we'll use the Periodic Table to help us write the notation for Xenon. Note that the last term in the Xenon electron configuration will be 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 4s2 3d10 4p6 5s2 4d10 5p6 • Introduction to Writing Electron Configurations:    • Introduction to Electron Configurations   • Electron Configurations Chart:    • Using the Electron Configuration Chart   • Writing Electron Configs Using only the Periodic Table:    • Writing Electron Configurations Using...   • Order of d and s Orbital Filling: https://eic.rsc.org/Coature/the-troub... Note that when writing the electron configuration for an atom like Xe, the d orbital is usually written before the s. Both of the configurations have the correct numbers of electrons in each orbital, it is just a matter of how the electronic configuration notation is written (see below for an explanation why). The configuration notation provides an easy way for scientists to write and communicate how electrons are arranged around the nucleus of an atom. This makes it easier to understand and predict how atoms will interact to form chemical bonds.
