Hello, I’m Salma, Practice Nurse at HYOS practice. Flu can be horrible for little children and if they get it, they can spread it around the whole family. Some children develop a very high fever or serious complications like bronchitis or pneumonia. They could even need hospital treatment. For children aged 2, 3 and 4, the flu vaccine is just a quick nasal spray. It may cause mild side effects like a runny nose, tiredness and some loss of appetite. But these usually end within 2 days and are not serious. The nasal spray definitely WILL NOT give your child the flu, or autism, or Covid. We are taking every precaution to protect you and provide flu jabs in a safe way with PPE, social distancing, screens and more. I know some of you may be concerned about giving your child the vaccine because it contains a gelatin product and you may think it is not halal. I understand your concerns. A Fatwa has been issued permitting the nasal flu vaccine in children and there are also alternatives available that we can discuss. So don’t delay, make sure your children are protected. Ask your GP about your child's free flu nasal spray.
