How I Painted a Non-Typical Whitetail Deer Portrait

In early 2006 I walked into a local sporting goods store, looked across the way and laid eyes on this “Jaw Dropping” whitetail deer mount hanging on the wall. I later contacted the owner of the mount and made arrangements to borrow it for a few days to gather the appropriate reference material for a future painting. At the time I knew I probably didn’t possess the artistic maturity to successfully create a painting that projected my vision for this incredible deer, so I put it on the back burner.
