This choral piece is from Mendelssohn’s “Christus” (op 97. “Christus” is based upon biblical texts of Jesus of Nazareth, and libretto by J.F. von Bunsun. The German choral piece “Es Wird Ein Stern aus Jacob aufgehen” is often translated into English as either "There Shall a Star Come out of Jacob", or “ There Shall a Star from Jacob Come Forth”. One might recognize Bach’s harmonization of the Phillip Nicolai hymn-tune “Wie schön Leuchtet der Morgenstern” at the end of the chorus.
