In a world where learning is open-sourced and has no borders, how do children learn at school and what can we do to help them learn better? The webinar involves discussion on adapting to newly designed NCERT textbooks, the process of weaving in National Education Policy 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework 2023 approach to School Education. It aims to engage school teachers, principals, parents and school children, especially of Class Three and Class Six, studying in CBSE board as well as state boards. NCERT books are used in CBSE schools and form a base for state-level textbooks too. It proposes to discuss the transition from the old NCERT syllabus (in maths, science, and social sciences) to new books, and how teachers and schools are prepared to handle the alignment with the National Education Policy and National Curriculum Framework. It will touch upon reducing the burden of the syllabus on children versus the need to achieve certain levels of learning, as the new textbook syllabus has been shortened. Also, as learning is open source, what sources can children trust while learning and how do they need to be careful in wading through a sea of learning material? Panellists include Michel Danino, author and visiting professor at IIT Gandhinagar who also heads the Curricular Area Group for Social Science in the National Syllabus and Teaching / Learning Material Committee, which oversees the preparation of new school textbooks published by the National Council of Education, Research and Training (NCERT) and G. Balasubramanian, Former Director (Academic), CBSE.
