Brothers REACT to MC5 Kick Out The Jams (Live at Tartar Field 1970)

MC5, short for Motor City Five, was a rock band formed in Lincoln Park, Michigan, in 1964. The band members were vocalist Rob Tyner, guitarists Wayne Kramer and Fred "Sonic" Smith, bassist Michael Davis, and drummer Dennis Thompson. MC5 is often associated with the protopunk and garage rock movements and gained a reputation for their high-energy performances and politically charged lyrics. The White Panthers was a countercultural group founded by John Sinclair in 1968 in response to the arrest of Sinclair for the possession of two joints (marijuana cigarettes). Sinclair, a poet and activist, formed the White Panthers to promote cultural and political change. The organization took its name as a play on the Black Panther Party, seeking solidarity with the civil rights and anti-establishment movements of the time. MC5 and the White Panthers became associated through their shared commitment to countercultural and anti-establishment ideals. The band's manager, John Sinclair, was a prominent figure in the White Panthers. MC5's music often reflected their political views, addressing issues such as anti-authoritarianism, anti-establishment sentiments, and social change. One of their most famous songs, "Kick Out the Jams," includes the line "Kick out the jams, motherf***rs!" and became an anthem for the counterculture movement. It's essential to note that MC5's association with the White Panthers was part of a broader cultural and political context of the late 1960s and early 1970s, characterized by a rebellious spirit and a desire for social change.
