After nine years, I decided I wanted to upgrade the sump under the 400g reef. I built it in 2010, and it has served me well. I wanted something somewhat different this time, with a built-in fan holder, spot dedicated to the Trident tester, a front view of the return zone, and a way to run a sock (or the ClariSea) on demand. Since I build custom sumps for a living, I wanted to make myself something nice using the CNC machine and applying my current techniques for gluing - which have improved over the years. This sump measures 58" long x 31" wide x 17" tall, and has a large refugium zone in the front. I run an internal pump for the return, the Abyzz 200a. I run a Vectra L1 externally to feed the Anemone Cube and the manifold. This video shows some of the breakdown. The entire change over from old to new took 15 hours to accomplish. Big thanks to Shane and Gabriel for coming over to help with some of the heavy stuff, and for filming part of the process. All the plumbing was redone with specific needs, and the final product looks clean and sleek, plus it's nice and quiet too. I'm really happy with how it all worked out, and the best part is the reef didn't skip a beat.
