What is faith in God? What is faith according to the Bible? So many feel like they don't have any faith because they are afraid, they are afraid of how they will make the car payment by Friday? They are afraid of what is going to happen if their wife goes through with the divorce? Will they get to see their children? They are afraid of the doctor's report. They say, "I don't know what to do?" We all know what the Bible says about faith Hebrews 11 says "faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." But what does that mean? Faith is easier understood by what faith does so we can understand what faith is according to the Bible. Lets look at Hebrews 11.. Hebrews 11: 1 - By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, (We don't need to know anything else. What matters is that you believe that God created it. I don't care whether you believe he did it in 7 days or million of years Who cares! Don't miss the point or you will miss God. Verse 7 - By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith. Did you know that scholars say it took Noah anywhere from 100-120 years to build the ark. And he was on the ark for more than a year before the waters receded. Now, that is faith. Verse 8 - By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.See you are not alone, it says Abraham didnt know where he was going. No idea. That's faith. Going anyway. Verse 11 - By faith Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered him faithful who had promised. That reminds me of Mark 5:34 when Jesus said, "Your faith has healed you." It doesn't matter whether Sarah had faith that God would do some instant miracle or that He would do it through 6 months of fertility treatments. The point is that she believed God could do it and she acted on that belief. Faith is trusting God even to the end.
