Despite growing up in the '90s in California in a Mexican-American neighborhood, I hadn't heard the music of Los Lobos and their classic 1992 album KIKO. The fusion of influences and genres from traditional Latin rhythms to country, Americana, and folk, was a major surprise. I was blown away by the psychedelic and at times haunting energy of songs like "Kiko and the Lavender Moon" and "Angels with Dirty Faces", as well as the raucous grooves of "Wake Up Dolores" and "Short Side of Nothing".
