DeWalt makes a slick car charger for their 12v/20v MAX lithium batteries. It's "official" name is: DEWALT DCB119 12-Volt MAX and 20-Volt MAX Li-Ion Vehicle Battery Charger. So, I decided to see if it would fire up and run using solar power. I am happy to say "success". However, it is best to have some type of "power source" running while this unit is charging. Be it the car/truck's alternator/charging system or (in my case) consistent solar charging system. The numbers show it draws around 5 amps while charging (about 60w). For solar panels to work, you gotta have direct, unabated sunshine with them facing the sun. In this test, I made SURE the truck's battery was fully charged before I plugged in the DeWalt battery charger. I honestly think this test showed it will work with a 100w solar panel, but cutting it real close. I would be more comfortable with a 150-200w in PV attached. © 2017 by Chris DIYer.
