“Don't leave footprints in the sand, leave boot tracks in the mud!” There’s something special about Yowah! It has an appealing shanty-town atmosphere and is a living Opal Gallery with world-renowned opals that have the most beautiful colours and magnificent patterns, all created by nature. The most distinctive opal is the “Yowah Nut.” We set up at the Artesian Waters Caravan Park before setting about to enjoy our time in this small community. We strolled around the fossicking area adjacent to the town, stopped in at the café and visited the Bluff to marvel at the views and spectacular sunset. We especially enjoyed a “borebath” in the open-air baths under the starry sky. Eulo is said to be the Montville of the South-west with businesses in the town selling opals, local crafts and produce (Eulo honey …. YUM). But this little town is also famous not only for the infamous “Eulo Queen” and the pub named after her but was put on the map following the 2011 discoveries of giant Megafauna fossils. Whilst walking through this magnificent township, you need to have your camera handy to take a photo of Kenny, the life-size Diprotodon statue + the underground air raid shelter built during WW2 + the Eulo flood truck - soooo interesting and bizarre! Just outside Eulo we visited the century old natural phenomenon known as the Mud Springs. This supergroup of mud mounds and open springs act as release valves for the Great Artesian Basin, forcing mud through fissures in the ground. Time to hit the road!
