Franconia Ridge Loop Full: Old Bridle Path Ascent

The crown jewel of our honeymoon hikes, Franconia Ridge was stunning on August 1, 2013. Enjoy this tour of the entire loop to find what awaits you or revisit the journey if you were unable to record it. Counter to popular suggestion, we ascended via the Old Bridle Path Trail and Greenleaf Trail and descended along Falling Waters Trail. We highly recommend taking this route as it provides many benefits including: spend most of your hike descending after summiting Mt. Lafayette first instead of last, avoid the crowds while ascending and descending, descending via Falling Waters seems no worse than by Old Bridle Path, and ice the cake with beautiful waterfalls at the end of the day. We began at 7:11am which provided for gorgeous views of the early morning along Old Bridle Path Trail. Mt. Lafayette, at 5,249 ft, was the highest of three peaks we summited. This hike is strenuous at a total length of 9.14 miles, requiring a few rock scrambles if you are without hiking poles and there are many boulders that require careful navigating. We completed the hike in 8 hrs 50 min, being sure to enjoy the summits and views along the way. This video compresses that time down to 22 min 51 sec.
