Instrumental for Dreaming Of The Past (feat. Kanye West) off of Pusha T's new album It's Almost Dry. Fully re-prod by me, originally prod. Kanye West aka. Ye. How I made it: Entirely made in Ableton Live 11 Lite. Sample is Donny Hathaway's Jealous Guy, a cover of John Lennon. That's pitched/sped up about 4(iirc) semitones or until the normally roughly 60 bpm sample is 80 bpm, then pitched back down 2 without time stretching, so in the end the sample is 80bpm and +2 st. If you have Ableton, you could skip the first part and just pitch it up 2 st and warp it until it lands on beat perfectly. The kicks in the sample are REALLY present, which they aren't in the finished track. To get the flat feeling in Ye's production, I applied a Limiter (just the default one in Ableton) to the track and set the ceiling to about -13db. After that, I put the "A Bit Warmer" Saturator preset on it and re-sampled to see the waveform and make sure it looked right. The one thing I think I should probably have done is taken down the stereo width, cause in the Pusha song it's a lot narrower (maybe even mono--not quite sure).
