Richard Starrett is dairy farming near Lifford, Co. Donegal, milking around 165 cows on a platform of 85 h/a. Richard also breeds high EBI animals in the top 1% in the country. All straight chemical N applied on the farm is protected urea. Richard has invested in extra slurry storage to give him the flexibility to use slurry when he can get the best value from it and protect the water courses on the farm. The Teagasc FBD Environmental Sustainability Awards aims to promote environmentally sustainable farming. The awards highlight the progress farmers are making to lighten the load of farming on the environment, while continuing to produce high quality, nutritious food, in a profitable manner. #EnvironmentAwards
