We had the most amazing, fun and somewhat random day in Yogyakarta. First, we meet up with an Indonesian friend of ours, who takes us around the city. Our first stop of the day is Taman Sari, an 18th century former royal garden of the Sultanate of Yogyakarta. Taman Sari, which is located near the Yogyakarta Palace, features a bathing complex with fountains, gardens for relaxation, and meditation areas. Next, we head to a batik art gallery to learn about this Indonesian dyeing technique. After a delicious lunch, where we try out some local Indonesian dishes, we head to Jalan Malioboro, which is a very colorful and lively shopping street in Yogyakarta. Jalan Malioboro is such a vibe, especially once the clock turns 6pm and the street is closed off to become a walking street. Here, we explore many of the side streets full of markets and go shopping for batik shirts. We speak to many locals, who wanted to practice their English language skills. The street becomes very busy after sunset and full of stalls with street food, street performers, artists, and live music. Little did we expect to be dancing with locals to catchy Indonesian music, having a shoulder massage on the street next to a horse carriage, and walking around trying to hand out bags of seed weed. This was certainly a day and night to remember, especially thanks to the many beautiful Indonesian smiles and the friendly and inclusive nature of the people of Yogyakarta. Yogyakarta is definitely a bucket list location to visit in Indonesia. #indonesia #yogyakarta #malioboro We would love for you to join us over on IG. Here we post lots of behind the scenes:   / living_the_jo_life
