In this episode of Crime Watch Daily Updates: We're taking a look back at the vanishing of Heather Elvis who disappeared from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Dec. 18, 2013. Heather Elvis worked as a hostess at a popular Myrtle Beach restaurant, where she met the man that would be her undoing. At just 20 years old, Heather was smitten with maintenance man Sydney Moorer, nearly 18 years her senior. The two struck up a relationship, but Moorer had a secret, he was married. When his wife, Tammy Moorer, discovered the affair, she threatened Heather shortly before her disappearance. While the Elvis family searched for answers, Heather’s body was never found. Finally, three years after the disappearance, Sydney and Tammy Moorer were charged in 2016. While the murder charges were dropped, the pair faced trial for kidnapping and conspiracy to commit kidnapping. But, in June of 2016, a jury couldn’t reach a verdict to convict Syney Moorer, with the judge declaring a mistrial. Prosecutors pursued and the Moorer’s were tried again. In October of 2018, Tammy Moorer was found guilty of kidnapping and conspiracy to commit kidnapping for her part in the abduction of Heather and sentenced to 30 years in prison. Nearly a year later, in September of 2019, a jury convicted Sydney on kidnapping charges, sentencing him to 30 years. Sydney Moorer has tried to appeal his kidnapping conviction, but in May of 2022, the South Carolina Supreme Court denied his appeal. Let’s take a look back at the Heather Elvis case and how her bright future disappeared.
