Presenter: Celeste Combrinck is a social scientist who focuses on measurement in the human sciences. She holds a PhD in Research Psychology from the University of Pretoria,. Sheand works as a researcher and lecturer in the Centre for Evaluation and Assessment (CEA) in the Faculty of Education (UP). Lecturing includes research methodology and application modules for undergraduates, as well as supervising post-graduate students in the field of assessment and quality assurance in education. Celeste has been the manager of several large-scale assessment studies, including the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) for 2016 as well as projects for the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation (MSDF) and the Nuffield Foundation. In 2017, Celeste was the recipient of the Tim Dunne Award and presented at the Seventh International Conference on Probabilistic Models for Measurement Developments with Rasch Models in Perth, Australia. As a promoter of rigorous and fair assessment practices, Celeste presents workshops on the use of Rasch measurement theory to students, colleagues and researchers.
