I Was Part of Negotiation Team: S. Jaishankar Reveals Shocking Details About 1984 Plane Hijack India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar shared a personal anecdote related to hijacking of an Indian plane during an event at Geneva. One of the members of the Indian diaspora residing in Switzerland asked Jaishankar about his take on the controversy regarding the latest Netflix series - IC-814: The Kandahar Hijack. In response to the question, the Minister said that he hasn't watched the series yet. He rather shared an anecdote as he said that, “Imagine being in the middle of a hijacking operation, only to discover that your own father is on the flight". He recounted, “In 1984, I was a young officer handling a major hijacking incident. My infant son was at home, and it was my scheduled day to feed him. I called my mother to let her know I couldn’t make it because of the crisis. To my shock, I learned that my father was on the hijacked flight.” For the unversed, seven members of All India Sikh Students Federation hijacked an Indian Airlines jetliner Indian Airlines Flight 421 on August 24, 1984. The hijacked plane carrying 74 people was flying from Delhi's Palam Airport to Srinagar Airport. The hijackers demanded the flight to be flown to the United States.
